When Astor Piazzolla was a child, his fisherman father would take him out to sea and on one of those trips, he caught a shark. That was the moment he understood that if he didn’t play the bandoneon, he wouldn’t be able to catch sharks for a living – and vice versa, because both require extraordinary strength.
This story is told in a recording heard for the first time in this film, even if its ending is known: As an adult, Piazzolla didn’t need to follow his father’s path because he became a legendary musician. Piazzolla’s son Daniel narrates this film, in which he presents interviews and rare audio clips, as well as criticism that tango traditionalists pointed at his father, who injected jazz into the genre and popularized it around the world.
